One of the activities we arranged for our students was a visit to some European institutions.
At the Office of the Secretary-General of the European Schools, we were welcomed by the Deputy Secretary-General, Mr. Manuel Bordoy, who kindly and amiably explained his work in Brussels. It was an unforgettable encounter where we could chat and meet someone who knows this European educational system the best, so beloved and with such extraordinary results. We learned firsthand about the organization of the coordinating center, the language sections, and the fundamental characteristics of the European Schools, all with unforgettable closeness and charisma.
At the Education Counsel of Spain in Brussels, we had a meeting with Mr. Counselor D. Pedro Martínez Ruano, who welcomed us along with Vanessa Lobos from the Galicia Europa Foundation in Brussels.
This is how they summarized our visit on their social media:
“This week we had a very special visit to our Counsel due to an ongoing Erasmus+ project: a group of 4th-grade ESO students from the multilingual school ‘La Inmaculada’ in Ponteareas (Pontevedra, Galicia) traveled to Brussels to meet their project partners from European School Brussels II.
We welcomed them along with the director Rosa García, their two teachers Ana Martínez and Mª Xesús Rodríguez, and the two Spanish teachers from EEB2: Mari Carmen Muñoz and Elvira López.
In addition, we had the presence of Vanessa Lobos from the Galicia Europa Foundation in Brussels.
The Minister of Education, D. Pedro Martínez Ruano, welcomed them and dedicated a few words emphasizing the importance of learning languages for their professional future.
It is a very interesting project called ‘Inhabiting the Earth with Wisdom: from Ponteareas to Brussels’ that they will develop over a year. We could not imagine that these two places have so much in common!
Congratulations on your wonderful initiative!”
